The Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System is seeking a Staff Psychiatrist for a position within the Mental Health Service. Psychiatrist will report directly to the Associate Chief of Staff for Mental Health Service and hold a full-time VA appointment.

THIS IS AN OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT; APPLICATIONS WILL BE REFERRED WHEN THE APPLICATION IS COMPLETED IN THE SYSTEM AND UPON REQUEST BY THE SERVICE

The position will include clinical, tele-health, and administrative roles. It is expected to be within the Ambulatory Mental Health Division, but is dependent on the clinical needs of the Service. The clinical roles will include consultation on and direct care of patients with a wide range of mental health conditions, including psychoses, mood disorders, addictive disorders, anxiety disorders, as well as Axis II conditions. The position includes an active role in the education of medical students, general psychiatry residents and addiction and geriatric psychiatry fellows. In addition to these duties within the Ambulatory MH Division, incumbent may periodically be required to cover acute inpatient wards, primary care clinics, and/or Consultation-Liaison duties, and will have on-call duties in rotation with other Psychiatrists in the Mental Health Service.

An appointment with our affiliate hospital the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, located next door, may be available to qualified applicants. 

Total Salary will include base component and market pay. Final pay will be determined by local Physician Pay Panel. Physicians are eligible for annual performance pay and incentive awards.


Duties

· Incumbent duties will include providing general clinical psychiatric services to Veterans and including on-call services.

· These duties include general psychiatric care of adult Veterans and may include, but are not limited to, conducting diagnostic evaluations, psychiatric consults, medication management, and individual or group psychotherapy.

· Psychiatrist may be expected to provide direct clinical supervision of mid-level providers, psychiatric advanced practice nurses or physician assistants and other staff as appropriate. The work requires an administrative and practical knowledge as a Psychiatrist.

· The incumbent is required to exercise judgment in the selection of or adaptation of standard and accepted clinical theories, techniques, and practices in treating patients or developing new techniques and programs for the treatment of specialized problems or clinical populations. Other services include, but are not limited to, treatment common patient diagnoses to include anxiety disorders, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Major Depression and other mood disorders, Substance Use Disorders, Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, and other Serious Mental Illnesses, Dementia, and mental disorder related to Traumatic Brain Injuries.

· The population served consists of female and male Veterans from all military eras.

· The Psychiatrist shall be expected to cooperate with and participate in, medical duties or functions related to quality of care, peer review, improvement and with other performance improvement activities at the direction of the Chief, Behavioral Medicine Service and the Chief of Staff.

Work Schedule:Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
