The VATVCBHCS is comprised of the Corpus Christi Outpatient Clinic (CCOPC), Corpus Christi Specialty Clinic (CCSC), Harlingen Outpatient Clinic (HOPC), Health Care Center at Harlingen (HCC), Laredo Outpatient Clinic (LOPC), and McAllen Outpatient Clinic (MCOPC). The VATVCBHCS is an ambulatory health care system providing health care in medicine, surgery, psychiatry, and rehabilitation medicine. The VATVCBHCS also operates a 100-patient Home Based Primary Care program and a 200-patient Care Coordination Home Tele-Health Program. Through the utilization of inpatient/emergency department contracts, approximately 2600 inpatient admission and 5800 ER visits are managed by VATVCBHCS. Affiliated with the University of Texas Regional Academic Health Campus, the system has an active ambulatory care program and serves as a teaching and training site for medical residents. The VATVCBHCS is responsible for an enrollee population of over 30,000 veterans and 350,000 outpatient visits annually.

Join the VA Texas Valley Coastal Bend Health Care System (VATVCBHCS) as the Compensation and Pension (C&P)/Substance Abuse Treatment Program (SATP) Psychologist. You will provide both face-to-face services as well as telemental health services to Veterans located at VATVCBHCS facilities as well as non-VA sites of care.  As the C&P/SATP Psychologist, you will provide psychological services with attention to delivering Evidenced-Based Psychotherapy (EBP) to Veterans diagnosed with Substance Use Disorder and/or PTSD.  Psychological services may include conducting assessments, delivering psychotherapy (in individual and/or group formats), and provision of consultation to staff regarding Veteran care issues.  In addition, you will perform all the duties necessary for high quality, timely completion of the mental health examinations assigned for initial, review, or increase C&P evaluations. 

  • Provide evidence-based interventions for SUD/PTSD, including CPT and/or PE.
  • Determine when clinician-administered psychometric testing is necessary and integrate the results of such testing into the report of the examination. 
  • May have clinical program management responsibilities, which include the operation and management of various psychology or mental health programs within the health care system.
  • Coordinate programming within the various mental health programs with managers of other programs in mental health as well as with discipline supervisors of affected staff assigned to these programs. 
  • Manage the work of various clinical programs and their staff, ensuring that work is assigned in a systematic way and meets facility and VA guidelines/standards.  

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.(Alternate schedules may be necessary to meet the needs of the organization.)
