Clinician Investigator, Mental Health Service

VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System (VAAAHS)

Exciting position for a Clinician Investigator at the Assistant Professor  or higher level on the Instructional Track at the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System (VAAAHS) and University of Michigan Department of Psychiatry.  Specifically the initial configuration of this position is a 5/8th part time appointment at the VAAAHS, and the successful candidate will also receive a 3/8 effort appointment at the University of Michigan Department of Psychiatry*.  The successful candidate has achieved significant professional recognition as an active independent investigator responsible for directing a program of funded research in the assessment and/or evidence-based treatment of psychiatric/behavioral disorders. The successful candidate has also demonstrated sustained capability to make scientific contributions that have a meaningful impact upon theory and practice in psychology/mental health. The implications of the candidate's work are system-wide and national/international in impact.

The impact is accomplished through most or all of the following: 

·         Responsibility/capacity for attaining awards and administering funded (federal and other) research projects

·         Eligibility and attainment of a senior-level faculty appointment in the instructional (tenure) track at the affiliate,

·         Multiple publications in peer-reviewed journals of high professional standing as well as a sustained record of presentations at national/international scientific meetings,

·         Ability to attract and mentor trainees and staff in research, clinical investigation, and/or program evaluation;

·         Contributing to Program development, program evaluation and outcomes based research/activities in areas of expertise that are a service priority

·         Leading and conducting training in advanced clinical care and evidence based treatment,

·         Active involvement in peer review activities as a subject matter authority

 Duties also include providing some direct clinical care/program development in area of expertise and assigned program; supervision of psychiatric trainees as well as; contributing to the academic mission of the service.

PART-TIME: This is a part-time, VA position (5/8ths, or 50 hours/per bi-weekly pay period). The salary listed represents full-time, VA employment and will be pro-rated based on the actual number of hours worked each pay-period at the VA. Likewise, benefits and time-off accrual will also be prorated and based on your part-time work schedule at the VA.  The incumbent will also receive a 3/8th appointment through our academic Partner Affiliate (Department of Psychiatry, University of Michigan Medical School).

Tour of duty: Usually the VA tour for a full time position is Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. but may include evening hours and weekends based on clinical need.


Required Qualifications for UM faculty appointment

The applicant for this position should have a solid research background and training in clinical psychology in an APA-accredited program.  Successful independent research funding is preferred.  Required qualifications include a Ph.D. degree in clinical psychology from an APA-approved program and experience in research and care of patient's in the clinical areas of expertise.  The position includes teaching, clinical and supervision responsibilities in the Department of Psychiatry's APA-approved postdoctoral training program, as well as in psychiatry residency and medical school training programs.

Candidates will be eligible for full medical staff membership under the Bylaws of the University Medical Staff. This will require a current Michigan psychology license.  Medical Staff privileges must remain current and be compliant with the continuing education and regulatory requirements.   

Note: This position is posted as Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Professor (Instructional Track). The rank of the selected candidate will depend upon candidate's qualifications.
