    The VA Salt Lake City Health Care System (VASLCHCS) is made up of compassionate employees committed to caring for Veterans whose sacrifices know no limit. Wahlen Department of Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, and nine community clinics across Utah, Idaho, and Nevada.     Responsibilities

    The position requires specialized knowledge and expertise in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of a variety of complex chronic pain disorders and related health issues, including the identification and treatment of mental health disorders within the context of chronic medical illness. The pain psychologist will provide diagnostic interviews, psychological testing, report writing, psychotherapy, and treatment coordination for male and female veterans with a range of mental health and/or medical issues who are referred for pain management. Responsibilities will include evaluating and treating patients with chronic pain and consulting and teaching within a multidisciplinary pain program.

    The main duties but are not limited to:

    1. Provides a full range of diagnostic and evaluation services appropriate to the multidisciplinary pain management setting, especially in the areas of general psychological evaluation of emotional and behavioral problems and suicide assessment;
    2. Provides a full range of psychological interventions consistent with training and expertise, with special emphasis on brief and evidenced-based interventions found to be effective in pain management;
    3. Develops, implements, and documents the psychotherapeutic treatment plan for an assigned caseload of patients, including prompt completion of clinical reminders.
    4. Facilitates patient and family education appropriate to the setting and the specific presenting issues;
    5. Provides consultation services to support team decision-making, building on physician and healthcare team interventions and improving team-patient working relationships;
    6. Consults with medical center staff on a wide variety of patient care issues.
    7. Provides clinical supervision to Psychology Interns and Postdoctoral Fellows completing training rotations in the assigned setting.
    8. Involved in Psychology Training Program and serves as a member of the Training Committee.
    9. Is involved in the training of medical students, medical and psychiatric residents, nursing students, and P.A. students in the assigned setting.
    10. Participates in the monitoring of performance measures that pertain to Outpatient Mental Health Services.
    11. Is responsible for timely completion of all clinical charting and documentation required by the Mental Health Services and the VASLCHCS.
    12. Participates in program-wide outcome evaluation studies.
    13. Other duties as assigned.

    Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 08:00am to 04:30pm. Possibility of working some weeknights and/or weekends, dependent upon the needs of the Service.
