    Responsibilities

    This is a Full Time Permanent Psychologist is located in the Extended Care and Rehabilitation Service Line Spinal Cord Injury and Disorders Center (SCI/D) at the Minneapolis Veterans Affairs Health Care System. SCI/D Center is a 30 bed acute care facility providing inpatient and outpatient acute care, ventilator, and sub-acute rehabilitation services for patients with spinal cord injuries/disorders (with and without head injury), patients diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), and patients with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). The Psychologist for this position will be part of inpatient multidisciplinary teams where he/she will provide services including cognitive screens, psychotherapy, and psycho-education (in group and individual form). This includes delivering evidence-based cognitive rehabilitation interventions to improve the physical, psychological and emotional functioning of the patients. Duties include the provision of direct psychological patient care, consultation services on difficult or complex cases, education of staff, and trainee supervision. The psychologist is required to have advanced knowledge of psychological diagnoses, intervention, behavioral health, and rehabilitation that qualifies him/her to provide both care to veterans and consultation to professionals representing a variety of disciplines. The interdisciplinary team includes nurses/nursing case managers, physicians, occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech therapists, social workers/case managers, and other medical/mental health professionals. The psychologist may collaborate on research projects initiated by other investigators and/or may initiate independent research projects.
