    VA Connecticut Healthcare System was officially formed in 1995. We serve veterans in Connecticut and southern New England. The West Haven facility is a tertiary care facility classified as a Clinical Referral Level I Facility. It is a teaching hospital, providing a full range of patient care services, with state-of-the-art technology and a renowned research program. Comprehensive health care is provided through primary, acute, tertiary and long-term care in areas of medicine, surgery, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, neurology, oncology, dentistry, geriatrics and extended care. Newington is an ambulatory care center that provides primary and specialty care. In addition to our main campuses, we operate six community-based primary care centers throughout the state.

    Performs work in direct support of procurement and purchasing programs in the Prosthetic area of the Sensory and Rehabilitation Care Line. Provides administrative and assistance level support from within an administrative office in support of the purchasing and procurement functions. Work includes purchasing and procurement of products, equipment, and supplies for disabled veterans, including amputees, visually impaired, and paraplegics. Performs work to acquire supplies and services to meet the purchase, rental, or lease needs of an organization.

    Duties include but are not limited to:

    • Receive and analyze prosthetic consults;
    • Examine clinical health records and claims folders to determine legal eligibility and medical entitlement;
    • Authorize and prepare complex purchase orders in a wide variety of prosthetic and orthotic devices;
    • Resolving conflicts that arise in the purchasing process;
    • Handle all duties with a high degree of independence;
    • Knowledge of HIPPA provisions;
    • Know and understand fund control points and accounting procedures;
    • Fiscal policies and procedures to include the Prompt Payment Act;
    • Skilled in using computer software programs to complete patient processing in Prosthetics;
    • Conducts quarterly inventory of prosthetics appliance stock in compliance with procedures and VHA Directive;
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Work schedule: Monday-Friday 08:00am-04:30pm. This position is located at the West Haven, CT campus.
