About the Memphis VA Medical Center: The VAMC in Memphis, Tennessee consists of one main campus located at 1030 Jefferson Avenue, which includes a sixty-bed Spinal Cord Injury Unit, and ten community based outpatient clinics (CBOC).It is a tertiary care facility classified as a Clinical Referral Level 1 Facility and one of the most complex medical centers in the VA system. It is a teaching hospital, providing a full range of patient care services, with state-of-the-art technology, as well as extensive education and research programs. Comprehensive primary, secondary, and tertiary health care is provided in areas of medicine, general cardiovascular and neurological surgery, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, spinal cord injury, neurology, oncology, dentistry, and geriatrics. Specialized outpatient services are provided through general, specialty, and subspecialty outpatient clinics including a women's health center. Services are available to more than 206,000 Veterans living in a fifty three county tri-state area (Tennessee, Arkansas, and Mississippi).

The RN is accountable for the delivery of quality nursing care for the patients processed in the designated inpatient areas. The RN has responsibilities which include assessing, planning and directing appropriate care and creating an environment that promotes, stimulates and fosters personnel growth and satisfaction The incumbent will demonstrate the ability to establish rapport with personnel, patients and family so that effective patient care is administered and appropriate health education is accomplished.As a registered nurse, the incumbent will provide medical treatment and personal care service to ill and injured to ill and injured veterans.  Duties include documenting observations, assessments, and changes in patient's condition, collaborating with healthcare team members and other interdisciplinary teams to facilitate positive patient care outcomes, providing a full range of nursing care to patients with a variety of physical and/or behavioral problems.  Accountable for meeting and maintaining the qualification standards and functional statements of assigned grade. Demonstrated organizational skills which enable completion of work in a timely manner with demonstrated ability to assume a leadership role in a patient centered program, and the ability to establish effective communication with patients, families, visitors and members of the interdisciplinary team.The RN is accountable for adhering to established policies, standard of care, and standards of practice that demonstrates leadership within Nursing Service.  The RN will be responsive to patient needs and ensures customer satisfaction which reflects an understanding of age specific and developmental needs.
