    The VA Salt Lake City Health Care System (VASLCHCS) is made up of compassionate employees committed to caring for Veterans whose sacrifices know no limit. We are part of the Rocky Mountain Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN 19). Our health care system consists of the George E. Whalen Utah, Idaho, and Nevada. We provide health care to over 50,000 eligible Veterans across one of the largest geographical areas in VA. We are a teaching hospital, providing full range of patient care services, holistic medicine as well as education and research in partnership with the University of Utah and other institutions of higher education. Comprehensive health care is provided through our primary care providers and tertiary care is offered in areas of medicine, surgery, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, neurology, oncology, dentistry, and geriatrics.

    Responsibilities

    The Critical Care Staff Development Coordinator is accountable for the effective provision of professional development activities including assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating educational activities according to standards established by the various professional continuing education standards, OSHA, The Joint Commission, and other regulatory bodies. The incumbent demonstrates a high degree of integrity, professionalism, and interpersonal communication skills to work effectively with a full range of health care staff, clinicians and administrators. Duties include but not limited to:

    • Assesses, plans, coordinates, implements, and evaluates critical care education programs and activities.
    • Develops, implements, and evaluates clinical mandatory training to insure safe patient care.
    • Maintains education records for Training for all staff in assigned services. Ensures privacy of education records.
    • Consults with individual clinical groups to provide inservice and continuing education activities to improve the delivery of care.

    • Coordinator, 12 Lead EKG Interpretation Program
    • Coordinator, IV Moderate Sedation Certification Program
    • Coordinator, Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support Programs

    • Co-chair, CPR committee
    • Provides expert consultation and guidance in assisting individuals, departments, organizations, and other entities in designing and facilitating professional educational activities.
    • Maintains acive involvement and provides support for facilities Simulation Program
    • Follows ANCC Guidelines for Continuing Education Credit application and acts as a Nurse Planner.The nurse planner in an approved provider unit, you must: have a minimum of a baccalaureate degree in nursing, have a current unencumbered license as a registered nurse and have experience in adult education and knowledge of the teaching/learning process. The nurse planner will have active involvement in all aspects of planning, implementation, and evaluation of a continuing nursing education activity. The Nurse Planner is responsible for ensuring that appropriate educational design principles are used and processes are consistent with the requirements of the ANCC Accreditation Program. The Nurse Planner will participate with the primary nurse planner in assessing and evaluating the overall effectiveness of the provider unit. The Nurse Planner should lead the CE process for the planning committee.The nurse planner is accountable to the primary nurse planner.
    • Assumes a leadership role in the development and implementation of programs to improve the delivery of patient care.Prepares and supports the UEC in his/her role in staff education, orientation, and competency assessment.
    • Participates in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating programs for all VASLCHCS employees as assigned by Director, HRL&E and Manager for the Center for Learning Excellence.
    • Serves as an instructor for courses/programs as assigned by Director, HRL&E and Manager, Center for Learning Excellence.
    • Fosters effective collegial relationships with other educators/staff development specialists in the facility and the larger health care community.
    • Collects data for and assists in the preparation of reports as required and/or requested by HRL&E, VASLCHCS Administration, and Central Office:
    • Teaches effectively and creatively.
    • Demonstrates operating knowledge of A/V equipment and arrangement of classroom to accommodate learner and presenter needs.
    • Actively participates in committee and task force activities as assigned.
    • Provides career guidance to employees for continuing and academic education.

    Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8;00 AM to 4:30 PM
