    VA TEXAS VALLEY COASTAL BEND HEALTH CARE SYSTEM
    The VATVCBHCS is comprised of the Corpus Christi Outpatient Clinic (CCOPC), Corpus Christi Specialty Clinic (CCSC), Harlingen Outpatient Clinic (HOPC), Health Care Center at Harlingen (HCC), Laredo Outpatient Clinic (LOPC), and McAllen Outpatient Clinic (MCOPC). The VATVCBHCS is an ambulatory health care system providing health care in medicine, surgery, psychiatry, and rehabilitation medicine. The VATVCBHCS also operates a 100-patient Home Based Primary Care program and a 200-patient Care Coordination Home Tele-Health Program. Through the utilization of inpatient/emergency department contracts, approximately 2600 inpatient admission and 5800 ER visits are managed by VATVCBHCS. Affiliated with the University of Texas Regional Academic Health Campus, the system has an active ambulatory care program and serves as a teaching and training site for medical residents. The VATVCBHCS is responsible for an enrollee population of over 30,000 veterans and 350,000 outpatient visits annually]

    Responsibilities

    Join the VA Texas Valley Coastal Bend Health Care System (VATVCBHCS) as a Registered Nurse for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention (HPDP) in Education Service.

    Duties include: 

    • Serves as a facility content expert related to health promotion and disease prevention
    • Oversees the integration of health promotion and disease prevention services into the Patient Care throughout the facility and affiliated Community Based Outpatient Clinics
    • Is knowledgeable about health promotion and disease prevention, as well as all outreach and local community resources.
    • Performs statistical reporting, evaluation, consultation and collaboration with non-VA facilities as well as other VA health care professionals and administrators.
    • Comprehends and maintains knowledge of current VA guidelines, policies, Federal regulations, and laws governing medical benefits for Veterans.
    • Possesses effective public speaking skills, and the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with a wide variety of individuals and organizations.
    • Is comfortable in the role of administrator, educator, and direct services provider, as the needs of the program require be capable of providing strong leadership.
    • Advises facility and primary care leadership on clinical and administrative issues related to health promotion and disease prevention, including clinical preventive services.
    • Advocates for policy and program development and resource allocation to support health promotion and disease prevention programs and services for Veterans.
    • Leads the effort to identify health promotion/disease prevention challenges, priorities for improvement, and opportunities for disseminating and sustaining best practices.
    • Primary facility point of contact for local, VISN and national health promotion campaigns and events, ensuring local implementation and participation.
    • Facilitates the dissemination of the VHA Clinical Preventive Services (CPS) Guidance Statements for implementation and evaluation of the services as defined in guidance statements.
    • Responsible for effective management of resources allocated by the facility to health promotion and disease prevention programs and services.
    • Provides leadership in the development or modification of service delivery processes to support the successful implementation of health promotion and disease prevention programs and services.
    • Designs and organizes evidence-based HPDP outreach events including strategies to evaluate outcomes of events.
    • Develops or coordinates the development of user-friendly tools to assist in successful implementation of health promotion and disease prevention programs and services.
    • Ensures that educational opportunities are provided to clinical and administrative staff to support and enhance their involvement in and delivery of local health promotion and disease prevention programs, services and activities.
    • Incorporates training in evidence based health promotion and disease prevention into new employee orientation for primary care and other relevant nursing staff.
    • Serves as an educational resource for issues related to evidence based health promotion and disease prevention.

    Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.; Alternate schedules may be necessary to meet the needs of the organization.
