We provide health care to over 50,000 eligible Veterans across one of the largest geographical areas in VA. Comprehensive health care is provided through our primary care providers and tertiary care is offered in areas of medicine, surgery, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, neurology, oncology, dentistry, and geriatrics.

    Responsibilities

    The Non-VA Care Clinical Coordinator is a registered professional nurse who will provide direct staff support to Non-VA Care Service program in planning, designing, integrating, implementing, modifying, and evaluating the effectiveness of program components and/ or services to improve the quality of patient care and the appropriateness and timeliness of services provided. He/She is responsible for providing the clinical leadership and expertise for the coordination of the medical center's Non-VA care authorization program. The incumbent possesses intimate knowledge of Non-VA Care federal regulations, VHA guidelines, medical review criteria, utilization management processes, clinical documentation requirements, current standards of care, and compliance guidelines. Clinical oversight of the non-VA care approval process is provided by the medical center Chief of Staff and/or designated appointee. Duties include but not limited to:

    • Uses sound clinical judgment to assess, interpret, evaluate clinical patient data in accordance with InterQual criteria sets, or third party requirements, as evidenced by: conducts initial precertification, continuing and retrospective clinical review audits to identify, abstract and interpret data related to a given patient's complaints, condition, diagnosis, treatment and discharge plans, working with Tricare insurance.
    • The Non-VA Care Services Clinical Coordinatormakes program specific decisions that reflect the distinct and contributory role of nursing; is responsible for providing advanced clinical and administrative recommendations relative to programs, committees, and/ or services that relate to Non-VA Care Services and Utilization Management; and is a leader/member of the Non-VA Care Services team involved in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) as an approach to assess and improve the quality of healthcare services, including the utilization of resources.
    • Executes position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to management of complex client care within VHA non-VA care program. The
