    The VA Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System (VAGCVHCS) is a multi-divisional health care system based in Biloxi, Mississippi spanning the Gulf Coast to include the following Community Based Outpatient Clinics in Mobile, AL, Pensacola, Ft. Walton Beach, and Panama City, Florida.  Acute inpatient medical and surgical care, primary, specialty outpatient care, long-term care, blind rehabilitation, as well as inpatient and outpatient mental health services are provided at the Biloxi campus.  Over 200,000 veterans reside in our service area.  The VAGCVHCS has affiliation agreements with three medical schools and numerous associated health programs.  We support resident training in cardiology, dermatology, general surgery, otolaryngology, ophthalmology, psychiatry, radiology, and dental programs, as well as a general thoracic fellowship.  The residents rotate from the University of South Alabama in Mobile, Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana State University in New Orleans, and Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi.

    Note: This position's initial duty station is Biloxi, Mississippi; however the duty station, based upon the needs of the health care system, may  require the individual to work from other facilities (e.g., Mobile Outpatient Clinic, Alabama; Eglin Outpatient Clinic, Florida; Joint Ambulatory Care Center Pensacola, Florida; and Panama City Outpatient Clinics, Florida)

    ·   This is a yearlong Entry to Practice Program for Registered Nurses (must complete licensing exam successfully with 90 days of hire)

    ·    Participate fully in the RN Transition to Practice Program while learning to provide comprehensive care to patients in hospital setting including but not limited to Acute Care, Long Term Care and Behavioral Health.

       o    Progress sequentially through each Phase of the RNTTP program to achieve competency in all    required nursing settings.

    ·   Ability to perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients

    ·   Maintain accurate and continued nursing documentation including patient histories, conditions, treatments, responses and assessment of changes.

    ·    Interact professionally with patient and family and involves patient and family in the information of the plan of care.

    ·    Formulate a teaching plan based on identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning; includes family in teaching as appropriate

    ·    Maintain current knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of patient and his/her clinical condition.

    ·    Current BLS Certification

    ·    Administer Medications and treatments safely and as ordered within approved Scope of Practice and competency. Verify orders once completed.

    ·    Demonstrate the ability to assist physicians with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures assigned patient care setting

    ·    Other duties as assigned.

    Work Schedule: 8 hours, 12 hours, days, evenings, nights, weekends
