    The St. Louis VAMC is a full-service health care facility providing inpatient and ambulatory care in medicine, surgery, psychiatry, neurology, and rehabilitation, as well as over 65 subspecialty areas. It is a two-division facility that serves veterans and their families in east central Missouri and southwestern Illinois.
     
    The John Cochran Division is located in midtown St. Louis in close proximity to its affiliated medical schools - St. Louis University and Washington University. It has all of the medical center's operative surgical capabilities, the ambulatory care unit, and a six-story Clinical Addition that includes surgical facilities, intensive care units, outpatient psychiatry clinics, and expanded laboratory.
     
    The Jefferson Barracks Division is located in south St. Louis County. It provides psychiatric treatment, regional spinal cord injury treatment, a nursing home care unit, geriatric health care, rehabilitation services, and a rehabilitation domiciliary program for homeless veterans.
     
    The St. Louis VA Medical Center has Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) in Belleville, IL; O'Fallon, MO (St. Charles County); and St. Louis, MO (North St. Louis County); and Washington, MO.

    Responsibilities

    VA encourages persons with disabilities to apply.  The health related positions in VA are covered by Title 38, and are not covered by the Schedule A excepted appointment authority.

    The duty station for this position will be the John Cochran Division or the Jefferson Barracks Division;  however, the duty station may be changed to one or multiple associated VAMC locations within the metropolitan St. Louis, MO area based on the needs of the medical center. This position is in the bargaining unit.

                                                                                         

    FUNCTIONS:

    the RN Nurse in the Transition to Practice Program effectively plans and implements the nursing process and the quality of care to patients requiring  nursing care and participates fully in the RN Transition to Practice Program.

    1.     Self-directed with ability to prioritize workload and demonstrate maximum flexibility.

    2.     Demonstrated ability to utilize the nursing process as a problem solving model.

    3.     Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with all members of the health team.

    4.     Participates in performance improvement activities in the unit, service line and Medical Center.

    5.     Demonstrates an excellent customer service philosophy with both internal and external customers

    6.     Demonstrates collaborative relationships with the Inter-disciplinary teams in providing continuity of care to the patient

    7.     Demonstrates self-motivation and independence in professional development, organization of tasks/assignments for the nursing team and in providing a safe patient care environment

    8.     Demonstrates knowledge and skills in the completion of nursing  patient care, documentation, and standards.

    9.     Participates in a one year residency in the RN Transition to Practice program, which includes a Preceptorship in clinical practice, didactic coursework, and an evidence- based practice project (BSN).
