    This announcement may close prior to the closing date Sept 28, 2017, once 50 applications have been received.

    The incumbent serves as the Security Assistant within the Personnel Security Program in the Human Resources Office at the Kansas City VA Medical Center (KCVAMC) and reports to the Supervisory Personnel Security Specialist.  The Personnel Security Specialist Program assures that all staff have an appropriate security/suitability clearance commensurate with their assignment.   Work assigned is of a very confidential and highly sensitive nature. 

    ·  Directs and advises employees and the public on general information for a large facility or corporation

    ·  Issues PIV cards to VA Personnel assigned to KCVA, Vet Centers, VISN staff, student, contractors, etc.

    ·  Determines when and if a temporary identification badge should be issued to an applicant pending background check requirements.

    - Taking and/or scanning fingerprints of employees, affiliates, contractors and volunteers.

    ·  Maintains up to date authorization letter for each service, identifying personnel authorized to request access                   changes for employees, contractors and affiliates.

    ·  Follows established Standard Operating Procedures.

    ·  Responds to each customer request with the most accurate and complete information  available consistent with    established policies and procedures.

    ·  Communicates with customers and personnel via telephone, email, face to face, etc.

    ·  Expedites services to those requesting/needing assistance.

    ·  Notifies employees when PIV card is ready for issuance.

    ·  Provides sound technical advice and guidance to employees, contractors, affiliates and  volunteers.

    ·  Registers and issues facility access badges.

    ·  Schedule appointments for customers to accommodate customers schedule.

    ·  Updates all tracking logs developed to maintain accountability and efficiency with the PIV office.

    ·  Extracts and enters data into computer systems.

    ·  Process ePAS Requests.

    ·  Utilizes databases to verify and process administrative tasks.

    ·  Assures that computer system data remains confidential and that all hard copy data is maintained in secure files.

    ·  Follows requirements outlined in Homeland Security Presidential Directive (HSPD) 12 and Federal Information Processing Standard Publication 201.

    ·  Appointing, certifying and validating the identity of sponsors, registrars and issuers.

    ·  Use of daily tracking logs to maintain accountability and efficiency.

    ·  Ensures personnel security requirements are met and maintained.

    Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm

    This a full-time, TERM appointment not to exceed 13 Months, however, the appointment may be extended up to 3 years depending on the need of the service, without further announcement pending management approval.
