Activated in 1972, the James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital is a tertiary care facility classified as a Clinical Referral Level 1 Facility. JAHVH is a teaching hospital, providing a full range of patient care services, with state-of-the-art technology as well as education and research.

Comprehensive health care is provided through primary care, tertiary care, and long-term care in areas of medicine, surgery, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, spinal cord injury, neurology, oncology, dentistry, geriatrics, and extended care.

JAHVH consists of five Veterans Health Administration facilities located in Tampa, New Port Richey, Zephyrhills, Lakeland and Brooksville, serving four counties in Central Florida. It is a part of the Veterans Integrated System Network (VISN) 8 that also includes facilities in Orlando, Gainesville, Lake City, Bay Pines, West Palm Beach, Miami and Puerto Rico.

The Clinical Staff Chaplain provides clinical pastoral care to Veteran patients and has responsibility for overseeing and coordinating an accredited program of clinical pastoral education. This position serves as full time Clinical Staff Chaplain to provide clinical pastoral care to Veteran patients and as an ACPE Certified Educator as part of an accredited program of clinical pastoral education. The chaplain divides his/her time as a Chaplain at the JAHVH and as an ACPE Certified Educator of the Clinical Pastoral Education Program. The chaplain performs professional work involved in a program of spiritual welfare and religious guidance for Veteran patients and their family. For more information about James A. Providing a well-rounded ministry to Veteran patients and family members, including, as appropriate, extensive and intensive pastoral counseling in collaboration with the interdisciplinary treatment team: Duties include:

Developing training objectives and course materials for the accredited Clinical Pastoral Education training program.
Recruiting faculty, developing/advising an interdisciplinary professional consultation committee after collaborating with the Chief of Chaplain Service.
Publishing course prerequisites and requirements, and participates in regional/national activities of ACPE, insuring the good standing of the CPE program with the accrediting organization.
Participating in the final design and preparation of and implementation of in-service training and orientation materials and programs for chaplains, local clergy and/or DoD chaplains.
Accomplishing necessary administrative and CPE program responsibilities such as managing the budget for CPE program, selecting religious materials and scheduling seminars, and other educational opportunities to enhance the learning opportunity for those residents or interns in the CPE program.
Recruiting and screening students, supervising and evaluating student functioning, and certifies completion of training to the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education standards.
Communicating the purpose and mission of the hospital to the religious and civic community and encourages community support.
Providing religious instruction and pastoral care for inpatients and outpatients who desire it.
Conducting spiritual needs assessments and interventions, with the Veteran patients' consent, in a variety of healthcare settings.
Working with Veteran patients in a variety of encounter modalities such as individual and group encounters, group leader, group resource person, etc.
Providing for or facilitates worship services at times and locations so that all Veteran patients who desire to attend can do so.
Providing pastoral care to meet the spiritual needs of inpatient and outpatient veterans served.
Conducting spiritual assessments, with the Veteran patient's consent, to determine Veteran patients' religious background, desire for spiritual and pastoral care, spiritual resources and injuries.
Seeking other clinical staff chaplains or clergy person in the community for religious/pastoral care service that he or she cannot provide.
Ensuring that Veteran patients have opportunities for free exercise of religion and protecting them from proselytizing from any source.
Communicating effectively with persons of diverse races, cultures, religions, nationalities, ages, and persons having varying types and degrees of disability, to understand and address their specific needs.
Documenting care in electronic medical records and protecting sensitive information from loss, disclosure, or alteration.

Work schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm. May be scheduled for rotation, call-backs and holiday coverage.
