The VA Palo Alto Health Care System (VAPAHCS) consists of three inpatient facilities located at Palo Alto, Menlo Park, and Livermore, plus seven outpatient clinics in San Jose, Fremont, Capitola, Monterey, Stockton, Modesto, and Sonora. These facilities provide some of the world's finest medical care and cutting-edge technology. 

VAPAHCS is a teaching hospital with an affiliation with the Stanford University School of Medicine which provides a rich academic environment including medical training for physicians in virtually all specialties and subspecialties. Our Health Care System operates over 800 beds, including three nursing homes and a 100-bed homeless domiciliary - all to serve more than 67,000 enrolled Veterans. You can learn more about

The first list of eligible applicants will be pulled for referral on February 22,2016.  Subsequent referrals will be made every month after that date.  Applications received after the first cut- off date, will be considered for the second cut-off, and so on throughout the life of the announcement and within you specific period of eligibility.

Duties

Work Schedule: Monday- Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm

Functional Statement Title/#: Staff Psychiatrist: Acute Inpatient Psychiatry and Consult and Liaison Team

The incumbent, who will also serve as a staff physician reports directly to the Director of Inpatient Psychiatry or designee who in turn reports directly to the Deputy Associate Chief of Staff for Mental Health Operations, and is responsible for providing psychiatric services to eligible veterans through the VA Palo Alto Health Care System (VAPAHCS). 

The incumbent will be responsible for:

  • The evaluation and management of patients on the acute inpatient psychiatry units, in the emergency room, will provide consultations to other services in the hospital and will have call duties.
  • Supervise trainees including medical students and residents.
  • Serve in hospital committees such as Medication Management Committee or Pain Committees and attend all meetings as needed etc.
