The Sioux Falls VA Health Care System is currently recruiting for one Part-Time, Permanent, Staff Psychologist. This position will be located in the Mental Health Service Line. As a Staff Psychologist, you are responsible for the following duties to include, but not limited to:

  • Clinical duties include performance of both routine and extensive or specialized psychological evaluation of patients.
  • When engaged in psychodiagnostic evaluation, incumbent independently conducts and documents clinical interviews. 
  • The incumbent is familiar with, selects from, and administers a wide variety of psychological evaluation instruments to assess intellectual capacity, personality attributes and functioning, other aspects of central nervous system functioning, to determine the presence of either psychiatric or organic CNS illness, to document the results of such assessments, and to provide diagnostic information and recommendations for treatment and management.
  • The incumbent performs Compensation and Pension evaluations, when/if needed.
  • Conducts group, individual, marital, and family therapy. 
  • In providing these varied forms of psychotherapy, the psychologist utilizes high technical skills in appropriately recognizing and responding to nuances in verbal, motor, psychomotor, and psychophysiological manifestations of emotional conflicts, which develop between individuals in such relationships.
  • All clinical activities will be consistent with the incumbent's specific clinic privileges. 
  • The incumbent is knowledgeable about and willing to engage in Evidence Based Therapies.
  • Ability to apply advanced professional psychological theories and techniques to the full range of patient populations. 
  • Ability to provide professional advice and consultation in areas related to professional psychology and behavioral health.
  • Knowledge of clinical research literature.
  • The incumbent is solely responsible for the independent implementation of the full range of psychological principles and techniques in patient treatment, whether it be on a group, family, or individual basis, and to use his/her professional training and judgment as to the particular technique, situation, and time frame for implementation.

Work Schedule: The tour of duty for this position is typically Monday - Friday, Day Administrative hours. Rotating Weekends and Holidays may be required. Additional information regarding the work schedule of this position will be discussed during the interview process.
