The VAMC in Memphis, TN consists of one main campus located at 1030 Jefferson Avenue, which includes a 60-bed Spinal Cord Injury Unit, and nine community based outpatient clinics (CBOC). It is a tertiary care facility classified as a Clinical Referral Level I Facility and one of the most complex medical centers in the VA system. It is a teaching hospital, providing a full range of patient care services, with state-of-the-art technology, as well as extensive education and research programs. Comprehensive primary, secondary, and tertiary health care is provided in areas of medicine, general cardiovascular and neurological surgery, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, spinal cord injury, neurology, oncology, dentistry, and geriatrics. Specialized outpatient services are provided through general, specialty, and subspecialty outpatient clinics including a women's health center. Services are available to more than 206,000 Veterans living in a 53-county tri-state area (Tennessee, Arkansas, and Mississippi).

Duties

The Supervisory LCSW (Integrated Care/PCMHI) will function under the supervision of the Chief, Mental Health Service and/or Section Chief Outpatient Care.  The incumbent will be stationed at the main medical center on Jefferson Avenue but will visit staff practicing in their clinical venues at the remote CBOCs.  This staff will be the supervisor for all Primary Care Mental Health Integration (PCMHI) staff assigned to Mental Health.  The incumbent will supervise a diverse inter-professional staff located at the Memphis VAMC and surrounding community clinics.  The incumbent will coordinate care with leadership in primary care and the mental health clinics. 

  • Major duties include but are not limited to:   Provides broad program management responsibilities for a multi-site primary care mental health integrated program at a 1a facility.  S/he demonstrates leadership within a respectful, interdisciplinary team format.  The incumbent will provide direct line supervision of 15 staff with anticipated of program expansion to 20.
  • Assist to develop standard operating procedures that ensures seamless transition of care between levels of care.
  • Ensures coverage of PCMHI services across multiple sites, coordinating telehealth services as needed.  Assesses functioning of clinical and administrative systems and implements actions to remediate or improve these. 
  • Provides comprehensive, evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions, including individual, family and group psychotherapy;
  • Provides case management for complex patients within the assigned MHICM panel of patients;
  • Provides consultation to professional staff within VA Medical Center at Memphis and to community providers, concerning clinical assessment findings and appropriate treatment plans for patients;
  • Independently evaluates the client's situation, including the veteran's reaction to it and ability to deal with it, and arrives at a reasoned conclusion; and
  • The LCSW will support same-day access to mental health services for Veterans as deemed necessary by the service, in person and by telephone.

Note:  Provision of mental health treatment through Telehealth technology is considered a routine means of care delivery.  Training modules will be completed within the first 60 days on duty.  The required skills assessment will be completed at the first opportunity following completion of the training modules, as coordinated with the facility Telehealth Lead.  All providers will deliver mental health care via Telemental Health technology as part of their regular duties.
Work Schedule: Full-Time, Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm; however, working hours may be modified to support mental health clinics that extend prior to or after normal working hours, including weekends.
