    The position of Supervisory Kinesiotherapist Therapist is located in the Medical Service at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

    Serves as the Supervisor of Physical Therapy/Occupational Therapy, Kinesiotherapy, Recreation Therapy and the VIST Coordinator and is responsible for all supervisory, managerial, administrative, clinical functions within these services. The position reports to the Chief, Medical Service.  This position is also responsible for the day-to-day supervision of all disciplines in the Rehabilitation section of Medical Service.

    Ensures rehab services are provided to clinically complex patients within Medical Service including Home Based Primary Care (HBPC), Outpatient, Acute Medical/Surgical, Rehabilitation Unit, Transitional Care Unit (TCU), Community Living Center (CLC), Acute Psychiatry and SARRTP

    Duties include but are not limited to:

    ---Recommends intervention of other Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation disciplines as indicated for concurrence of physician.

    ---Gathers pre-evaluation data, interprets medical record information, reviews therapy prescriptions and evaluates the patient to develop, organize, and administer programs of physiological evaluation, therapeutic exercise, and education to rehabilitate and modify the life style of the patient.                                                                                                                                 

    ---The therapeutic objectives that must be employed are the most complex because of the severe nature of disabilities encountered.  Unusual tact and skill are necessary to the success of the rehabilitation process, especially when planning activities for dual diagnosis patients to gain and sustain interest.

    --Frequently selects, recommends, adapts, constructs, and designs orthotic, prosthetic, assistive devices, and/or major/minor equipment and instructs patient/caretaker in the proper use, application, and care of such devices.

    ---Assumes responsibility for the independent operations of the clinic to which assigned. 

    ---Follows up on the status of patients who fail to report for treatment and/or for those patients who have progressed to the maximum under therapy.  Determines need for re-examination or evaluation by the physician

    ---Makes recommendation for Rehab Unit placement, as well as, community placement.

    ---Educates and counsels patients, families, and/or significant others about the disability incurred and intervention arrived at reducing the disabilities or its improved management of the remaining disability to be carried out at home.

    ---Compiles, submits statistical data, and reports quality management findings to document program effectiveness, caseload, and patient treatment/attendance.

    ---Identify, organize, and establish operating policies for maintenance of patient records, emergency equipment, supplies, facility, and exercise testing equipment to assure safety, warranties, and preventative maintenance.

    ---Adheres to all provisions of the Equal Employment Opportunity Program, fire and safety codes, infection control, equipment training, CPR, VA regulations, and established Medical Center Guidelines.

     ---Ensures timely appraisal for employee's under their supervision to include midterm and annual.  Incumbent ensures all staff are competent and complete a competency assessment annually.

    ---Responsible for day to day activity in all therapy treatment area's and will reassign or shift personnel within the department as needed to meet the daily workload demands.

     ---Reviews and updates functional statement and position descriptions annually or more frequently as the need arises.

    ---Initiates performance improvement plans and disciplinary actions in accordance with policy.

    ---Coordinates and administers the employee leave program in accordance with policy.

    ---In conjunction with the Chief, Medical Service, works with HR Specialist to recruit, interview and recommend hiring of therapy staff.

     ---Conducts regular staff meeting to communicate expectations, review policies and procedures, and to disseminate essential information.

     ---Submits requests for expendable and non-expendable equipment and reviewing the equipment needs and budget with the Chief, Medical Service.

    --- Ensures all OSHA Standards as well as all Medical Center Safety Guidelines and infection control policies are being met in all treatment areas. Incumbent will assure that all Joint Commission Standards are met by staff.

     ---Serves on the Service level Performance Improvement Committee.

    Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8am -4:30pm
