    VA Connecticut Healthcare System was officially formed in 1995. We serve veterans in Connecticut and southern New England. The West Haven facility is a tertiary care facility classified as a Clinical Referral Level I Facility. It is a teaching hospital, providing a full range of patient care services, with state-of-the-art technology and a renowned research program. Comprehensive health care is provided through primary, acute, tertiary and long-term care in areas of medicine, surgery, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, neurology, oncology, dentistry, geriatrics and extended care. Newington is an ambulatory care center that provides primary and specialty care. In addition to our main campuses, we operate six community-based primary care centers throughout the state.

    Responsibilities

    Supervisory Medical Instrument Technician (Echocardiography) as a GS-9 assumes full administrative and professional responsibility for planning and directing the work of subordinate technicians. These duties include assigning and evaluating the work of subordinate staff; providing Echocardiography Technician services in more complex cases; reviewing and making recommendations regarding new and emerging procedures; providing instruction and training to new staff; interviewing candidates for positions; recommending selections, advancements, promotions; evaluating performance; taking disciplinary action when necessary; and identifying educational or training needs. Additionally, this technician is responsible for performing echocardiography exams which range from routine to complex in all echocardiography modalities. Duties include varied administrative, and staff development functions, which may require problem solving, communication and writing skills, as well as knowledge of regulatory and industry compliance and accreditation issues.

    Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 08:00 am - 04:30 pm

    Occasional travel - Occasional travel to Newington campus may be required for coverage.
