About the Position:
Recruitment or relocation bonus may be authorized.

Position located at Brooke Army Medical Center,  Department of Pain Management, Ft. Sam, TX.

May be required to work weekends, holidays, and on-call status.  

Management prefers Board Certified Physician in Hospice or Palliative Medicine.

Management prefers post residency trained Physician in Hospice and Palliative Medicine.

Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, is proud to provide safe, quality care to our military service members, their families, veterans and civilian emergency patients as the most robust and productive healthcare organization within the Military Health System (MHS). Both inpatient and outpatient services are provided by approximately 8,500 staff members, including active duty military personnel from each of our uniformed services, Public Health personnel, federal civilians, contract employees, and volunteers.  Fort Sam Houston is located in San Antonio, the second largest metropolitan area in Texas with a warm climate and close proximity to beaches.  With its combination of art galleries, distinctive shops and fine dining experiences in a historically significant setting, the San Antonio River Walk, also known as the Paseo del Rio, comprises a network of walkways on the banks of the San Antonio River. Located underneath downtown San Antonio, this area contains shops, restaurants and other entertainment options.

Medical malpractice liability insurance is not required for federal civilian healthcare providers as they are covered by the Federal Tort Claims Act (28 U.S.C. § 1346(b)) while acting within the scope of their employment.

Duties

As a Supervisory Physician duties will include but not be limited to:

  • Work independently in accordance with methods and practices of the medical profession and established administrative policies as an expert in the field of Palliative Medicine.
  • Develop the role of palliative medicine in the military, conduct or direct research in the area of palliative medicine and end-of-life care, and create and maintain a palliative medicine clinical rotation for this institution's house staff.
  • Perform a wide range of medical duties covering consultation for the ICU, Internal Medicine, general and subspecialty surgical services.
  • Examine patients, recommend and evaluate the full range of radiology and laboratory tests, makes diagnosis and prescribe appropriate treatments.
