    This VAMC is a newly-constructed, state-of-the-art 108 bed tertiary-care medical, surgical, and psychiatric facility with an 84 bed nursing home care unit, a 50 bed off-site Domiciliary, and two community-based outpatient clinics. The VAMC serves as a major WSU-SOM site for pre-and post-graduate education in medicine, surgery, and psychiatry. A growing basic and clinical research program now exceeds $4.5 million in annual VA funding. Over 1700 employees provide dedicated service to Veterans from throughout southeastern Michigan. We are located in the heart of Detroit's cultural and medical center that includes museums, seven hospitals, and Wayne State University.

    The John D. Dingell VAMC is recruiting for a qualified psychiatrist to serve in a full-time capacity as a supervisory psychiatrist responsible for the Acute Psychiatric Service. In this capacity, the psychiatrist will provide overall administrative and programmatic oversight for Acute Psychiatric Services (APS) section at the John D. Dingell VAMC. Programs within the Acute Services section include Inpatient psychiatry, ER and transfers, Consultation Liaison Psychiatry and assertive community based treatment for those with high risk for readmission. This individual will work in close cooperation with the Nurse Manager and our Psychologist and other clinical staff (including psychiatrists) to provide coordinated and recovery-oriented care for the veterans on the inpatient psychiatry unit as well as those receiving care by the psychiatry consult service throughout the hospital. The psychiatry supervisor for APS will provide clinical oversight of the other psychiatrists caring for patients on B2N as well as clinical and administrative oversight of the rest of the B2N staff, including a psychologist, physician assistant and social workers, the entire Community Response Team, composed of a nurse practitioner and social workers, as well as the MH ED staff, composed of a psychiatrist and social workers. In addition, the psychiatry supervisor for APS will work with the other Mental Health supervisors to ensure that appropriate disposition services and meaningful therapeutic treatments are being offered on the psychiatry inpatient service. The psychiatry supervisor of APS will be responsible to represent Acute Psychiatric Service at facility-wide meetings, system redesign and QM projects, Joint Commission survey readiness committees, etc. The psychiatry supervisor of APS will also be ultimately responsible for the educational experience of the Wayne Psychiatry Medical Students rotating at our facility. All our trainees are in Wayne State University School of Medicine programs.Experience with quality improvement, management staff and supervising residents and program development are recommended.

    An academic appointment at Wayne State University School of Medicine is available commensurate with experience

    Work Schedule: 8:00-4:30 pm, M-F, with routine on-call duties as required.
