    Officially established in October 2006, the Orlando VA Medical Center serves more than 105,000 Veterans in Central Florida and includes a 120-bed Community Living Center, two Mental Health Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Programs/Domiciliaries (60-beds located at the Lake Nona Campus and 58-beds at the Lake Baldwin Campus), three large multi-specialty Satellite Outpatient Clinics in Orlando (Lake Baldwin campus), Viera and Daytona Beach, and four Community-Based Outpatient Clinics located in Clermont, Kissimmee, Orange City, and Tavares. The new medical center at Lake Nona is open for outpatient and inpatient services and will continue to expand inpatient beds, Emergency Services, and other specialty services throughout 2017. As VA's newest state-of-the-art health care facility, Orlando's 65-acre medical campus encompasses 134 acute inpatient beds, providing complex Medical/Surgical/Mental Health specialty care, advanced diagnostic services, and a large multispecialty outpatient clinic.

    Responsibilities

    The Orlando VAMC is looking for a Mental Health Lead and Supervisory Psychiatrist for the Viera Outpatient Clinic. Board Certification is preferred. The incumbent will have experience and demonstrate the ability to manage and oversee psychiatrists and Advanced Practice Professionals (APP). This a first level administrative supervisor for 8 psychiatrists and 1 APP at the Viera OPC, but is also the lead for the Mental Health Clinic at the Viera OPC. The Viera OPC provided mental health services to over 8000 patients the past fiscal year. This position reports to the Chief of Psychiatry, but works very closely with the CMO of the Viera OPC.

    Duties and responsibilities include:
    Leadership for an interdisciplinary Mental Health Clinic which includes psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers and APPs. The incumbent will ensure regulatory compliance in an outpatient clinical setting of patient care, meeting performance targets and benchmarks for the clinical and administrative activities and foster academic career development of junior psychiatrists. In this role, the incumbent assesses needs, allocates resources, monitors use and works with the CMO, Psychology Supervisor, Social Work Supervisor and other program managers to develop policies and procedures, implements systems to ensure effective Veteran centered care. Provides leadership in recruiting and selecting psychiatrists. Assists in addressing performance deficiencies; implements processes for maintaining ethical standards and professional identity among psychiatry staff; leadership in data-based quality improvement to promote adherence to VA/DOD clinical practice guidelines and current standards of practice.

    Duties also include providing treatment to an adult psychiatric population with diverse diagnoses including major affective disorders, psychotic disorders, PTSD and substance related disorders. The position demands a high degree of organizational stewardship, including willingness to receive additional responsibilities as assigned by the Chief of Psychiatry in accordance with the organization's needs. An ideal candidate will have necessary experience in leading an interdisciplinary mental health clinic, have familiarity with VHA and other regulatory standards, as well as a desire to enhance the delivery of quality Veteran-centered care to our nation's Veterans.

    Work Schedule: Tour: 7:30 am to 4pm or 8am to 4:30 pm. The candidate may be required to work weekends and irregular work hours and may need to provide clinical services off tour and will be required to do so upon receiving critical clinical messages. The candidate must be willing to be placed, detailed or temporarily assigned to other related services and/or locations, if necessary. All providers may be detailed to any site within the Orlando system.

    The selectee may be required to work or travel between any of the locations within Corporate Orlando, including the Lake Nona Hospital. The selectee may also be required to work various shifts on a permanent or temporary basis, based on patient care needs.
