    The VA Palo Alto Health Care System (VAPAHCS) consists of three inpatient facilities located at Palo Alto, Menlo Park, and Livermore, plus seven outpatient clinics in San Jose, Fremont, Capitola, Monterey, Stockton, Modesto, and Sonora. These facilities provide some of the world's finest medical care and cutting-edge technology.

    VAPAHCS is a teaching hospital with an affiliation with the Stanford University School of Medicine which provides a rich academic environment including medical training for physicians in virtually all specialties and subspecialties. Our Health Care System operates over 800 beds, including three nursing homes and a 100-bed homeless domiciliary - all to serve more than 67,000 enrolled Veterans.

    POSITION TITLE/FUNCTIONAL STATEMENT NUMBER:  SUPERVISORY SOCIAL WORKER, FUNCTIONAL STATMENT #0000000

    ***RELOCATION INCENTIVE/RECRUITMENT INCENTIVE IS NOT AUTHORIZED **

    As a Co-Coordinator of Social Work Education, Training and Quality Management, the incumbent will have primary responsibility for Quality Management.  Incumbent will serve as a liaison between the Social Work Service Executive Leadership Team, all other GS-185 Social Workers, all Social Work leaders in other Services (Domiciliary, Extended Care, Psychiatry) and GS-122 Peer Specialists across the VA Palo Alto Health Care System (Level 1a Hospital). Incumbent will be responsible to support all aspects of Quality Management in Social Work Service including a strong understanding of available metrics, data capture/review/evaluation, tracking of efficiency/productivity that support ongoing continuous improvement of both clinical and administrative services.  In this capacity, the incumbent will actively collaborate with the Social Work Education and Training Co-Coordinator in all duties outlined below.  In particular, Incumbent is responsible for social work staff development which includes the Social Work graduate student program and a robust series of conferences and in-services at all sites that support relevant and evidence-based clinical practice.  Incumbent may also be responsible for participating in the development of policies, procedures that support the administration and management of social work training, education, licensure and quality management activities.    Incumbent may manage the daily operation of these programs, develops policies and procedures for program operation and prepares reports and statistics for facility, VISN, and national use.

    The major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Assumes the supervisory and administrative responsibility for the management of any the assigned Peer Support staff who function within various programs in the VA Palo Alto Health Care System. 
    • Works closely with the Peer Support Services Coordinator to assist in planning, establishing, and implementing policies and procedures; developing individual or group goals and objectives as well as monitoring, operating, evaluating, coordinating and overseeing the Peer Support staff of the assigned program. 
    • Will assure the Peer Support staff whom they supervise are aware of, adhere to all current directives of VHA, and meet current JCAHO standards, and VA-OIG expectations and will conduct ongoing intensive reviews, appraisals to ensure the accomplishment of objectives, and adherence to standards set by governing bodies.
